Gemini Advanced is the paid version of the Gemini app with more capabilities, including early access to features, that’s available through the Google One AI Premium tier. As of late March, here’s what you get when you pay $19.99 per month (in the US).

Gemini Advanced features

Premium model

This subscription lets you access Google’s most premium model. It started with 1.0 Ultra before advancing to 1.5 Pro. As of late March 2025, there’s 2.0 Pro (experimental) “for complex tasks.”

Whether you’re tackling advanced coding challenges, like generating a specific program from scratch, or solving mathematical problems, like developing complex statistical models or quantum algorithms, 2.0 Pro Experimental will help you navigate even the most complex tasks with greater ease and accuracy.

Long context window

Gemini Advanced users get access to a long context window of 1 million tokens, which is equivalent to 1,500 pages of text or 30,000 lines of code. This allows you to upload significantly longer documents, with free users getting a 32K context window that translates to “around 50 pages of text.”

Paying customers also get “much higher usage limits.” This is not specific to the premium model, with the 1M token context window currently available in 2.0 Flash and 2.0 Flash Thinking (experimental).

slotPosition: ‘mid_article’
} );

Spreadsheet and code analysis

All (free) users can upload documents and slides, but spreadsheets (Google Sheets, CSVs, and Excel files) require a subscription. This can be used to analyze and visualize (charts) data. Supported file formats:

The ability to upload code folders and repositories also requires Advanced. Google touts how you can get “insights from thousands of lines of code, make intelligent changes, debug errors, and optimize your code for peak performance.”

Deep Research

Gemini’s first agentic lets you ask a question and get back a multi-point research plan that can be further customized. Once you approve, Gemini will search the web, analyze what it found, and compose a report. It’s available to all users, but Advanced customers get more reports.

Reference past chats

This Advanced feature lets Gemini look at past conversations you’ve had with the chatbot to inform the current response. You can “mention topics or timeframes of past chats” to trigger, while this capability can also be used to summarize previous conversations. To know when this has occurred, check the “Sources and related content” section for “Previous chats.”
