After adding “Completed” dates last month, Google Tasks for Android and iOS is adding uncompleted counts to all lists.
These counts appear in the carousel at the top of the app. The numbers are placed in pills (previously vertical but now horizontal) after the list name. They disappear when you’re viewing a list and when everything has been completed.
The count simply notes how many incomplete tasks are currently in a list. This is faster than swiping through all your lists to find what needs to be done.
It’s certainly an eye-catching addition that you can’t avoid. A setting to disable would be nice, with Google Tasks lacking any settings besides Theme and a link to system Notifications. Some people might not like the prominence or complexity, while I’d like the option to have it only appear for Tasks with day/date reminders that are overdue.
window.adSlotsConfig = window.adSlotsConfig || [];
adSlotsConfig.push( {
slotID: ‘/1049447/Outbrain’,
slotName: ‘div-gpt-ad-outbrain-ad-666749’,
sizes: [300, 250],
slotPosition: ‘mid_article’
} );
These counts are available for the dedicated Google Tasks Android and iOS apps, with the latter not yet using the Material 3 redesign. This is not appearing in the Google Calendar version. Google tested it for a month or so before widely launching in recent days.
Old vs. new
